About batch rotate PDF
Rotation is the cheapest operation in the PDF format and it is worth knowing why. A page carries a `/Rotate` entry — a multiple of 90 degrees — that tells a viewer how to turn the page before drawing it. Changing that number rotates the page. Not a single pixel of image data is touched, nothing is re-encoded, and the file size is identical to within a few bytes. That is what makes rotation completely lossless, and it is why batching it across a hundred scans costs almost nothing in processing time. The scope option is what makes this practical on real scan sets. A batch of documents fed through a sheet feeder typically has a *mix* — mostly upright pages with occasional sideways ones, often the tables and diagrams. Rotating everything would break the correct pages. Limiting the rotation to landscape pages only fixes the sideways ones and leaves the rest untouched, which is usually exactly the fix required.
How to batch rotate PDF
- 01
Add the files
Drop in every PDF that needs straightening.
- 02
Choose a rotation
Auto-detect handles the common case; pick a fixed angle if you know every page needs the same turn.
- 03
Limit the scope
Restrict to landscape pages only when a batch has a mix of correct and sideways pages.
- 04
Run and download
Each file is rotated and collected into a ZIP, with per-file page counts reported.
What this tool does
- Completely lossless: only the /Rotate value changes, never the image data
- Auto-detection from page orientation, plus fixed 90, 180 and 270 degree options
- Scope limiting so a mixed batch can be fixed without breaking correct pages
- Essentially instant even on large files, since nothing is re-encoded
- One failed file is reported with its reason while the rest complete normally
Limitations worth knowing
Every PDF tool has constraints. Stating them plainly is more useful than discovering them halfway through your work.
- Auto-detection uses page dimensions, not content analysis. It cannot tell an intentionally landscape chart from a sideways portrait page.
- Upside-down pages, which need 180 degrees, cannot be detected from dimensions at all — those need a fixed angle or the single-file tool.
- Rotation applies uniformly within each file according to the scope, so per-page control requires the single-file Rotate PDF tool.
- Slightly skewed scans, off by a few degrees, are not corrected — /Rotate only handles right angles.
How your file is handled
This tool runs entirely inside this browser tab. When you choose a file, your browser reads it from your own disk and hands the bytes to JavaScript running on this page — no network request carries your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and run the tool. You will see no upload.
Nothing is stored after the fact. Closing or reloading this tab discards the file, the result and everything derived from them, because none of it ever left your machine. Read how local processing works.
Questions about batch rotate PDF
Does rotating reduce quality or increase file size?
Neither. Rotation changes a single /Rotate number telling the viewer how to turn the page. No image data is touched and no re-encoding happens, so quality is identical and size changes by a handful of bytes.
How does auto-detect decide?
By page dimensions — a page wider than it is tall is treated as landscape and likely a sideways scan. It cannot read content, so a genuinely landscape chart looks the same to it as a sideways page.
Some pages in my files are already correct. Will they be broken?
Not if you set the scope to landscape pages only. That rotates the sideways pages and leaves correct portrait pages untouched, which is the usual fix for a mixed scan batch.
Can it fix pages that are slightly crooked?
No. The /Rotate entry only supports right angles. Correcting a few degrees of skew means re-rendering the page image, which is deskewing rather than rotation.
