Edit PDF

Add page-level marks, without confusing them with editing or secure removal.

Editing a PDF can mean adding marks, rewriting existing text or permanently removing sensitive content, and those are different jobs. The published tools here can add text watermarks and other page-level marks; Add Page Numbers is available in Organize PDF. The visual editor for placing text, images, highlights, shapes and signatures is not available, and those tools remain drafts. A PDF uses positioned drawing instructions rather than an editable paragraph model, so changing existing wording is best done in the original document before exporting it again. Secure redaction is also unavailable here: covering words with a box or cropping them out of view does not remove the underlying content.

About edit PDF

Can I change the existing text in my PDF?

No. These tools do not replace existing text or provide a visual whiteout editor. A PDF positions glyphs on the page rather than storing text as freely editable paragraphs. Correct the original document and export a new PDF, or use a desktop editor that supports the change you need. Covering old text is only a visual change, not secure removal: the original may remain searchable or recoverable by copying.

Does redaction really remove the text underneath?

Secure redaction is not available on this site; the redaction tool remains a draft. A black or white box, watermark or crop is not secure removal because the underlying text or images can remain in the file. Use a trusted redaction tool that permanently removes the selected content, apply the redactions and save a separate output. Reopen that output and check it with search and copy-and-paste as well as visual inspection; these checks alone are not proof that all hidden data is gone. For sensitive or regulated documents, follow an appropriate professional redaction and sanitisation workflow before sharing.
