About extract odd pages

Odd pages correspond to the fronts of sheets when the file starts on a front side and contains each side in order, with none missing, and that is what makes this selection useful rather than arbitrary. Two situations dominate. The first is a printer without a duplex unit: you print the odd pages, reload the stack, then print the evens, and manual collation requires the halves as separate documents. The second is recovery, where a scanner captured both sides but you only need the fronts — contract pages whose backs are boilerplate, or forms whose reverse is blank. The tool resolves odd positions against the physical page order of the file, meaning page 1 is the first page in the file regardless of how the document labels it, then copies those page objects into a new document losslessly. A document with an odd total page count yields one more page here than its even counterpart, since the final page is odd.

What this tool does

  • No page list to type — odd positions are selected for you
  • Relative sequence is preserved, so the fronts stay in reading order
  • Lossless page copying keeps scanned image data as captured
  • Pairs exactly with Extract Even Pages for manual duplex printing

Limitations worth knowing

Every PDF tool has constraints. Stating them plainly is more useful than discovering them halfway through your work.

  • Parity follows physical position in the file, not printed page labels, so front matter numbered i, ii, iii is still counted from sheet one.
  • If the source is missing a page, every subsequent front/back assignment is off by one.
  • Document-level bookmarks are not copied into the output, even when they point to included odd pages.

How your file is handled

This tool runs entirely inside this browser tab. When you choose a file, your browser reads it from your own disk and hands the bytes to JavaScript running on this page — no network request carries your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and run the tool. You will see no upload.

Nothing is stored after the fact. Closing or reloading this tab discards the file, the result and everything derived from them, because none of it ever left your machine. Read how local processing works.

Questions about extract odd pages

Are odd pages always the front sides?

Only if the document starts on a front side and no pages are missing. A file whose first page was skipped during scanning inverts the whole relationship, so check page 1 before relying on it.

How many pages will I get from a document with an odd total?

One more than the even extract. A 15-page document yields 8 odd pages (1 through 15) and 7 even pages, because the last page is odd.

Does this help with manual duplex printing?

Yes. Print this odd-page document, return the stack to the tray, then print the even-page document from Extract Even Pages — usually in reverse order, depending on how your printer stacks output.
