About convert PDF to A3

A3 is 297 by 420 millimetres — exactly twice the area of A4 and sharing its 1:√2 proportions, which is the reason A4 content maps onto A3 with no leftover bands at all. Scaling an A4 page up to A3 multiplies both dimensions by roughly 1.414, so an 8-point annotation on a plan becomes an 11-point one and a hairline rule stays a visible line. That makes A3 the standard escalation for drawings, seating plans, posters and any document that was legible on screen but cramped on paper. Because the source page is embedded as a vector form object rather than rasterised, text and line work enlarge with no loss of sharpness whatsoever. Bitmap images are the exception: their pixel count is fixed, so a photograph printed at 141% of its original size has 141% larger pixels and correspondingly lower effective resolution. Centre mode instead leaves content at true size with a generous A3 border.

How to convert PDF to A3

What this tool does

  • True A3 pages, so print services receive the size they quoted for
  • A4 to A3 is an exact proportional match — no uneven margins
  • Vector text and line art enlarge with no loss of sharpness
  • Centre mode for adding a wide border without changing content size

Limitations worth knowing

Every PDF tool has constraints. Stating them plainly is more useful than discovering them halfway through your work.

  • Embedded raster images do not gain detail. Enlarging to A3 lowers their effective DPI by about 30%, which is visible on photographic content.
  • File size barely changes, since the same content is drawn under a different transform — enlargement does not add data.
  • Not every printer handles A3; confirm before converting a long document.
  • Form fields and annotations may not scale with the page; flatten forms first.

How your file is handled

This tool runs entirely inside this browser tab. When you choose a file, your browser reads it from your own disk and hands the bytes to JavaScript running on this page — no network request carries your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and run the tool. You will see no upload.

Nothing is stored after the fact. Closing or reloading this tab discards the file, the result and everything derived from them, because none of it ever left your machine. Read how local processing works.

Questions about convert PDF to A3

Will an A4 page fill an A3 sheet exactly?

Yes. A-series sizes all share the 1:√2 ratio, so A4 scales onto A3 with no leftover bands. That is unusual — Letter to A3 would leave uneven margins.

Do photographs look worse at A3?

They can. A raster image has a fixed pixel count, so enlarging by about 41% in each dimension drops effective resolution by roughly a third. Vector drawings and text are unaffected.

Why is the A3 file the same size as the A4 original?

Enlarging changes a transformation matrix, not the content. The same fonts, streams and images are stored, so the byte size is essentially unchanged.
