About scan to PDF

Flatbed scanners and phone scanning apps frequently hand back one image per sheet rather than a document, leaving you with scan_01 through scan_23 and no PDF. Assembling those is a pagination job more than an image job, so this page is built around it: files are sorted naturally so page 9 precedes page 10, every image is placed on a uniform paper-sized page rather than inheriting whatever dimensions the scanner chose, and the result is one document that paginates, prints and archives like the original stack. Uniformity matters here in a way it does not for photos: a document whose sheets are subtly different sizes betrays itself the moment someone prints it. One thing this tool deliberately does not do is invent text. The output is an image-only PDF: it looks exactly like the paper, but nothing in it is selectable or searchable. Run the result through OCR PDF to add an invisible recognised-text layer underneath the scans, which is what turns an archive into something you can actually search.

How to scan to PDF

  1. 01

    Add every scanned page

Drop the whole set in at once. Numbered filenames are sorted naturally, so scan_9 comes before scan_10.

  2. 02

    Verify the sequence

Check the thumbnails read in document order and drag any sheet that landed in the wrong place.

  3. 03

    Pick one paper size

Choose A4, Letter or Legal to match the original paper, and leave fit on Contain so no edge of a scan is cropped away.

  4. 04

    Convert, then OCR

Download the assembled PDF, then run it through OCR PDF if you need the text to be searchable and selectable.

What this tool does

  • Natural numeric ordering so numbered scan sequences assemble correctly
  • Uniform paper-sized pages, so the PDF paginates and prints like the original stack
  • Contain fit by default, so scanner borders and page edges are never cropped off
  • Clean hand-off to OCR PDF for a searchable text layer
  • Local assembly: confidential paperwork is never uploaded to be combined

Limitations worth knowing

Every PDF tool has constraints. Stating them plainly is more useful than discovering them halfway through your work.

  • The output is an image-only PDF — the text in it is not selectable or searchable until you run OCR PDF over it.
  • No automatic deskewing, despeckling or contrast correction; crooked or dim scans stay that way. Fix them in your scanner software first.
  • Blank back sides from a duplex scan are not detected or removed; delete those pages afterwards with Organize PDF.
  • High-resolution 600 dpi scans are large, and long documents are bounded by browser tab memory — assemble in sections if needed.

How your file is handled

This tool runs entirely inside this browser tab. When you choose a file, your browser reads it from your own disk and hands the bytes to JavaScript running on this page — no network request carries your document anywhere. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, switch to the Network panel, and run the tool. You will see no upload.

Nothing is stored after the fact. Closing or reloading this tab discards the file, the result and everything derived from them, because none of it ever left your machine. Read how local processing works.

Questions about scan to PDF

Will the text in my scanned PDF be searchable?

Not from this tool alone. A scan is a picture of text, so the PDF contains images only. Run the finished file through OCR PDF, which adds an invisible recognised-text layer beneath each scan and makes the document searchable and copyable.

How do I make sure the pages end up in the right order?

Numbered filenames are sorted naturally, so page_2 precedes page_10 instead of following it. The thumbnail list shows the final order and you can drag any page to correct it.

Why should I choose a fixed paper size instead of Auto?

Because scanners produce slightly varying dimensions, and a document whose sheets differ in size looks wrong when printed or bound. A uniform A4 or Letter page makes the PDF behave like the original stack of paper.

Can it clean up crooked or grey scans?

No. This tool assembles pages faithfully and does not alter the images. Deskewing and contrast adjustment belong in your scanner software or an image editor before conversion.

Is it safe to scan confidential documents here?

Yes — the assembly happens entirely in your browser tab. Contracts, records and statements are never uploaded, which is the main reason to avoid server-based scan converters.
